Basically they act as "overprotective parents" making sure that you are safe whenever you are using electrical around water.

Where does GFCI Protection Get Installed?

GFCI electrical protection needs to be installed wherever water is present or on older homes that do not have a ground wire throughout their home.

Required Locations: Bathrooms, Kitchen Countertops, Basements, Garages, Outdoors, Laundry, Etc.

Does GFCI Protection Really Work?

Ground-fault protection was introduces during the late 60's. It was largely developed to combat the numerous emergency room visits resulting from home electrocutions.

Once GFCI's were integrated into most homes electrical systems. the rate of home electrocutions dropped dramatically. Moral of the story, DONT RISK IT!! PUT THEM WHERE THEY NEED TO BE.
